Since its inception, this Association has worked to boost the country's exports, focusing its efforts on helping companies achieve international competitiveness by developing various initiatives, including export training, diversifying export markets, promoting the country's offerings, and addressing the daily challenges of exporting, among many other issues. 

The first step in creating COEXPORT was the founding of the Salvadoran Exporters Committee, which originated within the Salvadoran Association of Industrialists (ASI) on June 23, 1973, at the initiative of visionary business leaders such as Roberto Palomo, Ricardo Sagrera, Ricardo Poma, Enrique Weil, Félix Castillo Mayorga, Raúl Molina Cañas, and René Toruño. Since 1973, COEXPORT has provided encouraging figures for the local economy. That same year, exports reached $358 million, primarily cotton and sugarcane; in 1975, these figures increased to $513 million, mainly from free trade zones. 

In 2021, after overcoming the impact of the pandemic, the sector reported $6.394 billion in exports, and COEXPORT aims to reach over $4 billion in exports by 2023. Exports of goods through November totaled $6.049 billion. Furthermore, COEXPORT recognizes the efforts and achievements of the export sector, particularly those who have played a significant role in the organization's history. This year (2023) has been especially significant, as 21 companies were honored for their contributions since COEXPORT's founding, representing 50 years of exporting and/or supporting the export sector.
