Coexport notes the positive performance of exports

The Salvadoran Exporters Corporation, through its President, Silvia Cuéllar, reported that exports accumulated through April 2026 reflect positive performance and greater dynamism in foreign trade.

The total value of exports reached US$2,247.8 million, registering a year-on-year growth of 5.0% compared to the same period in 2025. Likewise, the volume exported increased by 12.7%, reaching 1,484.6 million kilograms, according to the official report from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR). These results reflect a recovery in the country's productive and commercial activity, as well as greater dynamism in the export sector.

Main results:

  • Traditional exports: grew 42.6% in value and 99.1% in volume, with coffee (US$104.3 million, +45.8%) and sugar (US$124.8 million, +40.1%) standing out.
  • Non-traditional exports: consolidated as the main component, with US$1,728.2 million (+1.9%), driven by higher value-added industrial sectors.
  • Maquila (assembly plant): US$290.6 million (+2.4% in value), with adjustments in volume due to changes in international demand.

Productive sectors

  • Textiles and apparel: US$582.9 million, with a slight decrease compared to 2025.
  • Agribusiness: US$420.8 million (+20.4%), consolidating its position as a key driver of export growth.
  • Chemical, metalworking, and machinery industries: registered significant increases, reflecting diversification and sophistication of the export offering.
  • Furniture and furnishings: US$23.1 million (+4.5%), although with a reduced share.

Export Destinations
The United States remains the main trading partner, accounting for 32.6% of exports, followed by Guatemala with 19.2%. There is greater diversification of markets, with growth in exports to China, Mexico, Canada, and Spain, as well as expansion into emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, including Morocco, India, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.

Remittances
Family remittances continue to show positive performance. As of April 2016, El Salvador had received US$3,286.7 million, reflecting a 6.8% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This confirms the significant contribution of Salvadorans abroad to supporting their households and to the country's economic activity.

Finally, Ms. Cuéllar indicated that El Salvador's export performance reflects the dynamism and effort of Salvadoran companies, as well as the identification of new opportunities in emerging markets, helping to reduce dependence on traditional destinations. He also reiterated that COEXPORT maintains its commitment to continue promoting the competitiveness and diversification of national exports.
