Within the framework of the Turkish Business Mission to El Salvador, the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and the Salvadoran Exporters Corporation (COEXPORT), with the support of the Turkish Embassy in El Salvador, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen trade ties between the two countries.

This agreement aims to foster the exchange of economic and trade information, organize trade fairs and business missions, and promote bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

According to data from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), El Salvador imported $33.5 million from Turkey in 2024. Among the main products imported were construction materials and components, paper used for toilet paper, makeup remover wipes, towels, napkins and other household paper products, pharmaceuticals, containers and receptacles for various materials, polyesters, and epoxy resins in primary forms. On the other hand, Salvadoran exports to Turkey reached $1.3 million in 2024, with products such as coffee, rubber-soled footwear, plastic, natural or regenerated leather, rags, twine, rope and cordage made from textile materials, cotton waste, rubber, and resins being the most prominent.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Silvia Cuéllar, president of COEXPORT, and Ali Galip ILTER, vice president and coordinator of the Turkey-Latin America and Caribbean Business Councils of DEIK, during a visit by a delegation of Turkish businesspeople to El Salvador. During their stay, COEXPORT presented its work to strengthen Salvadoran exports and highlighted the wide range of goods and services that the country offers to the world.

In addition, bilateral meetings were organized with Salvadoran exporters of products such as rum, coffee, jellies, sweets, chocolate coating, honey, and baked goods, which generated significant interest among the visiting businesspeople. As part of this collaboration, events are planned to showcase the Turkish market and its business practices, as well as to identify new export opportunities for Salvadoran companies. The agreement will have an initial term of three years, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement, and establishes the commitment of both entities to work on initiatives that promote balanced bilateral trade and the economic development of both countries. "We are excited about this type of direct cooperation, in which we can establish links between Turkish demand and our exportable goods, boosting the growth of our exporters in a market with great potential," said Silvia Cuéllar, president of COEXPORT.
